Jazz with Janice Hagan at The Reservoir Lounge

Last week I was in downtown Toronto to see and photograph Janice Hagan at the Reservoir Lounge. It was a night of swinging jazz with a few timely Christmas tunes interjected for festive seasonal measure.

Janice and her band gave an excellent performance, taking control of the show and having fun at the same time. Swing dancers emerged from the crowd, the band played on, and at some point it seemed we could’ve been back in the 50s.

The lounge posed a different challenge as far as event shooting goes. Even with full reign to shoot as required, I decided not to use any flash. The fastest of prime lenses coupled with high ISO settings allowed the shots to reflect the true ambience of the venue.

Thanks to Janice and the talented crew for putting on a great show. On sax was Scott Neilson, Michael Carson on bass, and William Sperandei made a special appearance to play trumpet and sing with Janice. If you’re in Toronto, you can catch their show on Thursday nights.
